A new prototype boiler created by Worcester Bosch that can run on 100% hydrogen gas was unveiled in 2020. The UK government's climate change targets of net-zero carbon emissions by 2025 highlighted a need for the decarbonisation of heating and hot water systems therefore hydrogen boilers could be the solution - to replace oil and natural gas.
Worcester Bosch developed this prototype over a number of years and the hydrogen boiler runs effectively on natural gas as well as hydrogen, meaning the option to transfer to hydrogen in the future should be easy for those with a hydrogen ready Bosch boiler.
Whilst we may think of hydrogen as an energy source of the future it is in fact already here and is being widely explored as a solution to the UK’s heating problems as the main by-product of burning hydrogen is water, a carbon-free fuel source.
